Such a horrible story!
A 21-month-old baby girl was shot in the face this week when she was caught in the middle of crossfire in Staten Island.
Samyah Bailey was sitting in her stroller when "a heated argument broke out between two men." A shot was fired, which hit the poor little girl in her head "setting off panic in the courtyard."
Family friend Indigo Williams grabbed Samyah. The friend said:
"I didn't even think - it was just reaction. I ran to get the baby. I saw the baby there by herself… he was still shooting."
Luckily, she's expected to make a "near complete recovery." She unfortunately lost an eye from the incident, but doctors said it was "kind of a miracle."
Police were able to catch the 19-year-old suspect Damark King, who is accused of shooting her.
During his court hearing, a crowd jeered him as he left his arraignment. A woman yelled:
"Hang yourself with a sheet, b**ch!"
The saddest part is that Samyah's family knew King personally and even gave him a ride home just two weeks earlier.
And this wasn't even his first shooting. He was on parole after serving four years in prison for shooting a teen twice in the chest. He was just released this past January.
Unbelievable. This man clearly needs to be behind bars - and for a very, very long time. We are just so happy that Samyah is alive and is recovering well. Stay strong, little girl! A lot of people are waiting to see you when you get out.
