The bullies who were accused of tormenting 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, the young teen who committed suicide back in September, have officially been suspended from their school.
The Williamsville Central School District concluded their investigation last week and declared that no charges were to be filed. Superintended Scott Martzloff said:
"[The police] shared some information with us, and we followed up. We made the determination to take disciplinary action."
Unfortunately, the students received "minimum" suspensions, which implies that they will be sanctioned for up to five days.
Officials say that the reasoning behind Jamey's suicide appear to be far broader than just bullying by classmates. He'd also blogged about experiencing problems outside of school.
We're still in shock that not more disciplinary action has taken place. Jamey's friends had witnessed him being bullied on a daily basis by classmates, many calling him "f-ggot" and telling him to "kill yourself."
Back in September, another female student was suspended after telling friends of Jamey's sister Alyssa that she was glad that Jamey was dead.
Unbelievable. Those teens are ruthless and deserve more than just a couple days off of school. Criminal charges should have been made and they deserve to be taught a hard lesson.
Hate and violence is never, ever the answer.
