In the 1970s and 80s breastfeeding moms were all over Sesame Street. Clips (like the one above) featuredbreast feeding moms explaining natural feeding to puppets and child actors.
Don't remember seeing boobs on Sesame Street? That's probs because in the 90s some powerful yuppies decided boobies belong in shirts off TV! The breastfeeding segments were taken off the show — and even a clip from a breast feeding mom was removed from the song You're My Baby.
The lack of breastfeeding repped on TV has got a lot of hippy and regular moms pissed!
Moms, like the ones that keep staging breastfeeding flash mobs, are positioning to get breast feeding back on the PBS show.
"Women breastfeeding are the images we want to show to our sons and daughters, so that they will view a woman's body as more then a sexual object. That's the only way we will see a change in future generations. My hope for this is that all moms, however they chose to feed their babies, come together and support one another."
Know what? That makes a lot of senses!
We say go for it — as long as you stop feeding at a reasonable age!
