You might only have a couple more months to watch Chelsea Clinton on NBC.
She signed a contract for only 90 days and is only obligated to provide the network with two more stories, since her Dec. 12 debut.
There was huge anticipation and some sources even say that she was "set up for a fall" after NBC "created unrealistic expectations" when they made the announcement in November that she was to become a full-time special correspondent.
While NBC News prez says that her work is wanted on Rock Center and Nightly News, he didn't mention that her 90-day contract would be extended.
"[NBC] created unrealistic expectations. Chelsea wanted a 90-day contract to see if she liked it. It’s possible she will do more for NBC in the future, [but] she doesn’t know if she’ll sign another contract."
But the new NBC News rep says that it's:
"100 percent false. You will see more pieces from Chelsea. She has been warmly welcomed into this news division, and we can’t be more pleased with her work. We hope she will be with us for a long time. There was no over-hyping of her role."
So, what does Chelsea have to say in all this? Her rep explains:
"Chelsea is at the beginning of her contract, and when she gets closer to the end, discussions will begin about whether or not to renew. In the meantime she is very much enjoying her time there and looking forward to her next piece airing."
Sounds to us like it's all just a game of wait and see. If Chelsea's numbers go up then NBC will obviously offer her an extended contract. But her ratings are just so-so, we have a feeling she'll get the boot after 90 days.
