Chemical Found In Personal Care Products May Contribute To Child Obesity!

This is scary.

The chemical known as phthalates, found in many personal care productions such as lotions, cosmetics, perfume, medication, and other nutritional products, has been linked to a possible contribution to childhood obesity.

The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York found an association between the exposure of the chemical and children who had a higher BMI than the average child.

Research showed that the BMI in overweight girls with the highest exposure to the chemical was 10% higher than those with the lowest exposure.

The study's leader explained:

"Research has shown that exposure to these everyday chemicals may impair childhood neurodevelopment, but this is the first evidence demonstrating that they may contribute to childhood obesity."

While a poor diet and lack of activity can also contribute to obesity in children, it seems that there may be a link between products containing phthalates and a possible cause or at least significant contribution to obesity. Very, very scary!!

Parents might want to consider using organic and enviro-friendly products for their children. The fact that products are still being made with such harmful chemicals, ESPECIALLY in products for children, is just an absolute outrage. Something needs to be changed.
