Anyone could have figured it out, but now it's be scientifically proven.
Depressed gay teens aren't depressed because they're gay, or cause there's something wrong with them chemically, or cause God hates them. They're depressed because they're bullied!
In a new study, researchers surveyed 246 LGBT youth aged 16 to 20 — 57% of the participants were black and about half female. They followed the youths over several years to see what happened to them.
They found that being bullied (over several years) and a low level of support from others boosted the risk that the teens would become suicidal. After 2.5 years 15% of the kids being studied reported trying to harm themselves.
Researchers found, a history of being bullied made someone TWO TIMES more likely to harm themselves. :(
BUT, there's some good news! The study's co-author Brian Mustanskithose says those young GLBTers with social support from family and friends were less likely to be suicidal.
The cure for the gay suicide epidemic is support and love!
We challenge ALL our perezcious readers to be be part of the cure. Make it a point to show love an support to those who need it!
