Astronaut turned author!
Mark Kelly, the husband of Gabby Giffords, is now setting his sights on children's books just four months after releasing Gabby: A Story of Hope and Courage with his wife.
The retired astronaut will be taking inspiration from his own life and putting a kid's twist to it with his new children's book Mousetronaut: A Partially True Story.
Okay, that title just sounds adorable.
The book is based on a real life mouse that he traveled with on his first shuttle flight into orbit.
Flying with 18 "mice-tronauts," Mark says that he noticed that 17 of them were clinging to their cage, but once mouse "seemed comfortable through the whole mission, like he was enjoying it."
"After traveling in space over five million miles with these very small space explorers, I take great pleasure in telling their story. While astronauts get all of the credit, we are really just part of a larger or in this case smaller team."
The book's editor Paula Wiseman describes more about Mark's inspiration to do the story:
"He wanted a way to make the experience of being in space tangible for young readers. While the story is fictional, working with Mark Kelly and his extensive knowledge of the realities of space travel has been interesting and fun."
We have a feeling kids are really going to enjoy this story and will be inspired by the little mouse's courage.
The book is set to be released this October.
