Possibly the saddest story we've ever heard!
After their 3-month-old daughter Alyssa was found with 11 broken bones in her legs, her parents were charged with child abuse.
The couple, police officers Dave and Tiffany O'Shell, were shocked as their only child was taken away from them and given to a foster family. Insisting they were innocent, the parents asked if possibly their daughter had brittle bone disease, but But doctors said that wasn't possible.
In the weeks that followed the family's crisis spiraled out of control. Because Dave was the lead suspect, a lawyer told Tiffany that divorcing him would be the only way to get her baby back. That's when Dave lost it. Our source explains:
"Dave reportedly shot his wife while she slept, then took his own life, sticking two handguns in his mouth and pulling both triggers."
Then, as if the story couldn't get any more tragic, a few weeks later Alyssa was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, which weakens limbs and is associated with broken bones. Specialist Dr. Gary Chan concluded:
"I have spent three hours reviewing the xrays and the reports. The fractures are consistent with subjects with SMA. I would guess some of these fractures may occur at time of delivery, but most occurred after birth from normal handling. It does not surprise me that Alyssa had fractures noted at 3 months of age."
Alyssa died from the fatal disease when she was just 7-months-old.
This whole thing is truly heartbreaking. Obviously, what David did is totally unforgivable, but we are disgusted the way CPS handled themselves as well.
We can only hope that the family is together again somewhere.
