We know how hard it is to balance the pressures of family AND work, so we’ve enlisted the help of one of America’s most inneresting families!!
Meet the stars of Discovery Channel's American Guns - the Wyatts!!
The Wyatts are a not-so-typical suburban family who just so happen own one of the biggest firearm facilities in the WORLD. Yup, they own Gunsmoke Guns located just outside Denver, Colorado.
Momma bear Renee Wyatt works alongside hubby Rich Wyatt and the two eldest of their four kids Kurt, 22, Paige, 17, Brooke, 5, and Ginger, 3.
We can't imagine it's easy, but Renee has perfected the art of balancing home life while running a successful business. And, now she tells us HOW!
1. Teach your children to be comfortable in a work environment:
I’ve arranged it so that the entire family is comfortable with interacting with each other no matter where we are. Our daughter Brooke had a nursery at Gunsmoke from the day she was born! Gunsmoke is our family legacy and all of the children see it as part of our lives, not just "work" or "Daddy’s job." It’s who we are not what we do.
2. Don’t micromanage:
By not micromanaging your children (or your employees), they and only they are responsible for their actions, and that allows them to directly reap the rewards – or suffer the consequences – of their decisions. Teach your children, "when in doubt, DON’T" meaning that if your conscience tells you not to, don’t do it.
3. Make a plan and stick to it:
Map out your day the night prior to make sure you carve out time to accomplish everything that needs to get done. Efficiency is the key. Do everything you do with 100% commitment and you will rarely have to redo what you have done – for instance don’t let a call go to voicemail. Answering a call is much more efficient than letting it go to voicemail, then retrieving the call, then returning it. Utilize those rare, free moments well – such as returning emails while your children are playing.
4. Be anti-drama:
If it’s not that important, let it go! You don’t have to win EVERY time. Don’t make the same mistakes over and over – acknowledge, learn and change.
Go to bed and wake up on a schedule. If you don’t sleep at night it’s nearly impossible to use your day efficiently. Sleep will help you stay healthy, stay thin and stay sane.
Definitely words to live by!!! And since we LOVE our beauty sleep, #5 is definitely our fave!!
And don't forget to check out American Guns every Wednesday night at 9 PM ET/PT on the Discovery Channel!
