"Being TOO strict with your child's diet can backfire. If you are too strict and tell your child he/she cannot have any sugar, sweetened cereals,fast food, soda or other typical foods that their friends are eating, these children often become adults with major food issues. As adults they often over eat and binge on the foods their Mother or Father told them they could not eat as a child and they rebel as adults. Therefore, an occasional fast food meal, soda or a piece of cake is FINE, you cannot shelter them from the world of food! As a registered dietitian I have seen this first hand when counseling over weight adults who had parents that obsessed about food and restricted ALL junk food! Just keep your child active, and the majority of the time feed them healthy foods! "
