This is heartbreaking.
NYPD Officer Rafael Ramos is one of the men who was murdered on Saturday in Brooklyn, and he sadly left behind his 13-year-old son Jaden Ramos.
Following the horrible shooting, Jaden posted a message to his Facebook, saying:
A flock of addiction experts have lent their support to Oscar winner Michael Douglas' son Cameron Douglas and have promised to help his family fight the 54-month prison sentence he is currently serving.
The 33-year-old is in the midst of a five year jail sentence for drug distribution and heroin possession. Last year he received an additional five month term after he was caught with drugs INSIDE prison.
A handful of doctors have agreed with the prisoner's father's legal team who have called the sentencing for Cameron "shockingly long" and claim the celebrity son would be better off with therapy instead of jail time.
The assembled group hope to help shorten the inmate's sentencing and possibly change the law's stance on handling prisoners dealing with addiction.
Here's what one doctor said:
"My outrage is as a physician for someone who has a medical condition which has been ignored. What the judge has imposed has zero benefits for the community and has staggering consequences for society."
Hopefully, this group will be able to make some sort of headway for Cameron and Michael's sake.
We'll see, though.
