A woman from Georgia plead guilty to pretending to be her son to take out a life insurance policy in his name after he had already died.
Donna Ellis Gibbs' son died in a 2002 car cash, but Gibson altered official documents to make it seem like her son had died after the life insurance policy was taken out.
Gibson admitted to receiving over $150,000 from the fake policy, and has been sentenced to over 20 years of probation.
The person who actually ousted the woman was her ex-husband and father of the child who died. He discovered what she had done in 2007 and subsequently reported it to the insurance company.
We're obviously shocked someone could use their child's death to scam for money like that. We understand she was upset over the loss of her child, but it's never OK to steal no matter what those reasons happen to be!
