Wow, crazy! We guess better late than never, right?

Dylan McDermott's mother died from a gun inflicted wound back in 1967 when the actor was only five-years-old.

After reopening the investigation at Dylan's request the police have ruled that the mother was shot and killed by her now-deceased gangster boyfriend.

The evidence they found would be enough to file murder charges against John Sponza for the murder of Diane McDermott - Sponza had originally told police Diane had accidentally shot herself while cleaning his gun.

Buuut, five years later Sponza was found dead in the trunk of a car parked at a grocery store.

Police were able to examine the evidence decades later and discovered the head wound suffered by Diane McDermott showed a gun pressed against the back of her head.

Although Dylan McDermott has yet to comment on the story, here's what his sister said:

"I'm happy to know my mother wasn't mentally ill or depressed. Somebody took her from us; she didn't leave us."

Here's what police recalled Dylan McDermott had said last year while in town:

"He said in order for me to survive and to get where I am today, I needed to bury that moment in my life deep within myself. He said it wasn't until recently that I've come to the point in my life where I'm able to begin to process all of this and make it part of his life."

We're glad that the actor is able to add some closure to such a traumatic and scary part of his life.

Here's to the road to recovery!
