Long before Catelynn Lowell made the decision to give her baby up for adoption, she saw the dangers of a poor home environment up close. She says:
"I pretty much saw my mom drunk almost every day. I had to grow up really fast."
It could be the Teen Mom grew up a bit too fast and wound up having to make decision she wasn't ready for. But she thinks she's ready now.
Catelynn says she is ready to act as a parent to her little brother Nick if it means keeping him out of the kind of home she grew up in. She says:
"If my mom derails again, I will step in and adopt my brother… I know that my mom loves her children, but when it comes to addict parents, sometimes they love their drug or their alcohol more than they love their children."
Catelynn's mom April understands her daughter's sentiment, but says she is clean now. She says:
"It would be a good place for Nick, but it's not going to happen. My kids are too important to me… I feel bad Catelynn had to grow up around me drinking all the time. She shouldn't have had to worry about her mom."
We certainly hope it doesn't come to this, for the sakes of all involved.
Nick deserves to grow up with a mom that cares, and Catelynn and fiance Tyler Baltierra need time to decide what they are going to do with their own lives.
Be strong, April! Do it for both of your kids!
