The National Center for Health Statistics has released new numbers that show a decline in oral sex among adolescents, but the numbers are still relatively high.
Studies show that the number of females participating in oral sex dropped, but the numbers for males stayed the same.
Experts believe two thirds of all youths participate in oral sex which is believed to be a big reason why sexually transmitted diseases are rampant nowadays.
The data came from 6,346 interviews among young adults from 2007 to 2010.
Many adolescents believe oral sex is risk free, but one expert said that was totally untrue.
Here's what the expert said:
"That's not the case. Studies looking, for example, at patients visiting STD [sexually transmitted disease] clinics have shown that 5 to 10 percent have gonorrhea in the throat. And it's often asymptomatic and can be transmitted through oral sex. I would say that the risk of STD transmission through oral sex is underappreciated and underestimated. As part of sex education programs, kids need to be made aware of that fact: that oral sex is not a completely risk-free activity."
Here's what the CDC said:
"Numerous studies have demonstrated that oral sex can result in the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases."
Scary stuff, so be careful you kids!
Sex is not something to take lightly!!!
