Back in 2010, George Lucas joined with Bill Gates and Warren Buffett in The Giving Pledge, a declaration that he would use most of his fortune for charity.
George's particular focus was on education. He said:
"I am dedicating the majority of my wealth to improving education. It is the key to the survival of the human race. We have to plan for our collective future — and the first step begins with social, emotional and intellectual tools we provide to our children. As humans, our greatest tool for survival is our ability to think and to adapt — as educators, storytellers and communicators, our responsibility is to continue to do so."
Well, the Star Wars creator is $4 billion dollars richer as of Tuesday. How will he be spending that money?
A spokesperson for the newly acquired Lucasfilm confirms that George will indeed be sticking to the pledge. The spokesperson says:
"George Lucas has expressed his intention, in the event the deal closes, to donate the majority of the proceeds to his philanthropic endeavors."
Wow! We're no mathematicians, but we're pretty sure the majority of 4 billion is… a lot! Like probably a million!
Man, George is right! We do need to focus more on education!
