Michigan Teacher Suspended For Playing A 'Gay Song' During Class

Susan Johnson is a performing arts teacher who works in Michigan and when one of her students approached her to play a song that was pro-gay, she thought it would be a good experience for all of her students.

Here's what she said:

"I asked him a few questions about the song…if it was violent, if there was any profanity, and he said no, I really love my kids and I never want to hurt them, but I also know that there's a lot of bullying and there's a lot of gay bashing and racial issues going on in our country and I want the kids to feel comfortable in my class no matter who they are. This is one of the things in my school that we're trying to practice and we're trying to instill in our students is tolerance to diversity."

But her administration disagreed.

When she was told that she was going to be suspended for three days and would be docked pay for two of those days, the teacher detailed how she felt, saying:

"I don't think that it was really even thought through. I was paralyzed. I really didn't understand why I was being suspended."

The official reason why the school suspended was because of her with playing a song with controversial lyrics about homosexuality and religion and for failing to ask for permission to play it in class.

Johnson has enlisted the help of the ACLU and Affirmation to help her fight the case.

Good luck!!! We totally hope you win!!!
