When the Palace announced the historic pregnancy, they also let everyone know exactly why the Duchess of Cambridge was in the hospital. She is reportedly suffering from a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum.
It's basically just severe morning sickness, but we don't want doctors to feel like their $300,000 education is going to waste, so fancy name it is.
The thing is, this specific morning sickness is pretty rare, only affecting about 2% of pregnant women. It's caused by too much chorionic gonadotropin, a pregnancy hormone, and also the name of the next Coldplay album. Ha!
Well, it turns out women with an extra fetus get extra hormones, so the conditon could be an indicator that we need to change our hashtag to royal babies- plural!
Now we're doubly excited!
