The survivors of the Newtown, CT school shooting have received way more toys than they could possibly use- reportedly over 60,000 teddy bears alone!
So what can charitable children around the world do to show their support for the students of Sandy Hook? Let it snow!
The National Parent Teacher Association has made a very specific request in a memo to states, asking for snowflakes! They write:
"When school resumes for Sandy Hook, it will be in a new building. Parent-volunteers are working to ensure that the students are welcomed back by a winter wonderland with the entire school decorated with as many unique snowflakes as possible."
What an amazing way to show the children just how many people care!
So how is it going so far? National PTA President Betsy Landers says:
"It has really taken off beyond our wildest expectations. They are arriving in all different shapes and sizes by the thousands."
How beautiful! So what gave them the idea of giving the kids a winter wonderland anyway? Betsy says:
"It’s a way to make these children feel cared for, to create a moment of awe and help them experience something wonderful on their return to school."
We imagine with that many snowflakes, each individual shape representing another voice saying, "We're with you"- the kids will get the message! Bravo, PTA!
