This is heartbreaking.
NYPD Officer Rafael Ramos is one of the men who was murdered on Saturday in Brooklyn, and he sadly left behind his 13-year-old son Jaden Ramos.
Following the horrible shooting, Jaden posted a message to his Facebook, saying:
When Bjork Eidsdottir named her daughter Blaer, she had no idea she was breaking the law! She says:
"I had no idea that the name wasn't on the list, the famous list of names that you can choose from."
That's right! Iceland has a specific list of approved baby names! 3,565 names - 1,712 male and 1,853 female - to choose from and no more! Icelanders are not allowed to use names from other countries or to create new names.
No wonder Iceland doesn't have many celebs- how would they name their kids?!
Because her name - which means "gentle wind" - has been deemed unacceptable, 15-year-old Blaer has been called simply "girl" on all her official papers, causing all sorts of bureaucratic havoc for her!
So now Blaer and her mother are suing to reinstate the name. Mom says:
"It seems like a basic human right to be able to name your child what you want, especially if it doesn't harm your child in any way.
And my daughter loves her name."
Shockingly, this is the first time a name ruling has been challenged in court! We say go girl! Er, we mean go Blaer!
