We could tell Drew Barrymore was going to be an awesome mom!
But it seems like the Charlie's Angels star really did need to survive the path of excess to reach the palace of parental wisdom.
In a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, Drew says she will tell little Olive all about her past, drugs and all! She says:
"I will absolutely instill in her that you cannot be ashamed of the journey that it took, you know, to get where you are if you are proud of yourself."
Drew continues by pointing out she learned from her own mother Jaid Barrymore what not to do as a parent.
It was Jaid's neglectful parenting that allowed Drew to get involved with drugs and men at an early age. She says:
"I will also try to instill on her that I did not have guidance and that is why I lived my life that way.
And although I am proud of it and I don’t want to spend the rest of my life regretting it, there is no option for her to take that path because she has guidance."
It sounds like Drew knows exactly how lucky she is- not only to have such a wonderful new family of her own, but even to be alive!
Even though she's happy to be where she is, she'll do everything she can to make sure Olive avoids the pitfalls she stepped in.
That's good parenting!
