3-month old, Audrina Cardenas was born with her heart outside of her body in November, and after she was taken into immediate surgery to secure her heart back into her chest… she's finally going home two months after her operation!!
The rare condition called, ectopia cordis, that Audrina was born with only happens to eight out of 1 million babies, and while most die within days of being born, this baby girl didn't!
Audrina's surgeon, Dr. Charles D. Fraser shared:
"Audrina is a true fighter and we are hopeful that she will continue to progress. I am also hopeful that Audrina's case marks the beginning of our ability to care for more children diagnosed with ectopia cordis in the future."
The fortunate doll went home on Thursday with a heart "shield," and is doing very well.
Awww! This is soooo freakin' heartwarming!!
You go girl!!
