Baby Born With Tessier Midline Facial Cleft Finally Goes Home After Receiving Craniofacial Surgery!

This is a miracle!

Dominic Gundrum was born with a Tessier midline facial cleft, which means that the sides of his face didn't meld together during pregnancy, and just when everyone thought that "he was only supposed to live a couple of hours," the little cherub fought for his life and lived!!

Now, after receiving a six-hour craniofacial surgery, he finally went home.

The chief plastic surgeon at Boston Children's Hospital, Dr. John Mearav said:

"In the 20 years I've been in the specialty, I've not seen a case exactly like this. I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that I had a number of sleepless nights. But I felt comfortable in the sense that we had an excellent team."

Crazy thing is, surgeons like Meara are not accessible everywhere, and considering that one child with a cleft is born every three minutes… that means they're not all surviving.

But in Dominic's case, even if he did possibly suffer from fungal meningitis, he's doing well.

At 7-months-old, Gundrum is living a normal life and will continue to do so!!
