will smith says he doesnt do punishment with his kids(1)

This is good to hear!

While Will and Jaden Smith are currently gearing up to debut their new movie After Earth, the 44-year-year old actor revealed that parenting and punishing do NOT go together.

Will said:

“We don’t do punishment. The way that we deal with our kids is, they are responsible for their lives. Our concept is, as young as possible, give them as much control over their lives as possible and the concept of punishment, our experience has been — it has a little too much of a negative quality. So when they do things — and you know, Jaden, he’s done things — you can do anything you want as long as you can explain to me why that was the right thing to do for your life.”

To which Jaden replied:

“This is what I’ve realized: No matter what I do or how I do it, he knows 100 percent of what’s going on. There’s no point in hiding anything because he knows. Whether he acts on it or not, he knows…He knows, bro.”

It seems like Will is some sort of super dad, but we're just happy that punishing is not an option in the Smith home because quite honestly, it just doesn't work sometimes!

WTF! That's not life! If you rob a bank the police officer isn't going to say please tell me why you think this was the right thing for you to do with your life! He is going to arrest your ass. I just wonder if they are teaching these kids there are consequences for your actions.

Ain't - you have a point, it did not me any harm to get a swat with a belt now and then.

This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard! Not punishing your kids for doing something wrong?! No wonder we have a bunch of self-entitled little brats growing up in this country. This logic is too twisted to even argue with.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Their children will grow up with no concept of reality, and continue to foster this entitlement generation.

I'm not a fan. In real life there are consequences for your actions. If they are not teaching this to their kids, then that is a problem.

no wonder his kids are freaks. I wouldn't let his kids near mine for all the money in the world.

It doesn't sound like anybody in that family has to pay consequences for anything they do. As long as it feels right for them….anything goes. I am so glad I was not brought up that way.

Way to not be a parent.

There are different types of punishment. If you don't believe in spanking there are alternative forms of punishment/consequences available. What good does it do if he knows 100% what's going on or not if there aren't going to be any consequences? In real life there are consequences. It's better to learn them under a loving parent while you are still young than from the law when you are older and the consequences are potentially far worse.
