Wow! Pennsylvania Mom Rescues Kidnapped Son In Egypt!

mother saves son egypt

After nearly two years, Pennsylvania mom Kalli Atteya has finally been reunited with her son Niko!

In 2011, Niko's father disappeared with the boy while on a trip to Egypt. Kalli later learned the entire trip was a ruse to kidnap Niko and raise him as a traditional Muslim. Kalli says:

"He said that we lack the morality and the values that their system has. And he said that Americans were so violent, he said we are a rotting society."

Interesting point of view, coming from a KIDNAPPER!

After police were unable to help, Kalli found Niko herself with the help of a private investigator. She then came up with a daring plan!

She disguised herself in a burqa in order to get close enough and was able to make contact and spirit the boy away!

Niko said he was able to recognize his mother's blue eyes right away!

Now the mother and son are living safe and sound in a secret location in America, happily ever after! Well, until Niko discovers teenage angst! LOLz!

What an amazing tale of bravery! Further proof that nothing can stand between a mother and her child! Way to go, Mom!

As an organization dedicated to preventing international parental child abduction and, when possible, assisting in the reunification of kidnapped children, we are so happy for our friend Kalli and her son Niko that they have finally made it back home. However, let us be reminded that there are an extraordinary number of children of abduction who remain in harms way due to their kidnapping - abductions to extremist countries are commonplace - in reality we are all just 3 degrees of separation from knowing someone who has had a child abducted abroad. The key to stopping abduction is to have strong parental abduction prevention laws in place: something the I CARE Foundation continues to work on while stewarding the messages revolving aroung the risk factors of abduction in our ever shrinking cross-cultural world. In all of this, as exemplified by the ordeal of Kalli and her son, but clearly and unquestionably not isolated to their situation as their are many similiar situations, we must ask the question of how anit-Western beliefs plays a role in international parental child abduction when a child is illegally detained in a politically antagonistic country controlled by religious zealots.
