We couldn't be happier that the Boy Scouts voted to lift the ban on gay members! Well, we guess we could if they didn't still ban gay parents and adult leaders…

The celebs are just as conflicted as we are!

George Takei is happy for the step forward! Jenna Dewan-Tatum thinks it isn't nearly enough!

See what the celebs have to say …AFTER THE JUMP!!!

Well, we're glad the Scouts are at least thinking about forward-thinking! Maybe just a few more steps!

The Boy Scouts are a private group. Key word being PRIVATE.

If you don't agree with how they operate START YOUR OWN GROUP. Instead of forcing said PRIVATE group to conform to your views.

    It's absolutely ridiculous.

Re: Duh – Yes, they are a private organization. Just like the Country Clubs used to not allow black or Jewish members, the Boy Scouts have decided to discriminate. It was public pressure that made it no longer socially acceptable for those country clubs to continue their discrimination - I'm sure the same will happen to the boy scouts. THey may be a private organization, but they do operate in the public realm and are therefore subject to the opinions of the public.

Re: Duh – Seriously? This is what's wrong with this country!

That's cool and I am very pro gay, however, the Boy Scouts are not a sexual organization and if they aren't going to be discussing sex, why is this even an issue? Let's leave sex, gay or straight, out of the scouts!!!

Re: VeronicaSharon – No one mentioned sex, they are discussing sexual orientation… There's a difference.

Re: Disgusted – subjected to opinions yes, views and perseption of the public, agree to all that. However, as a privately owned and operated organization they can do whatever they please. As an Eagle Scout growing up in Scouting we here in NY all knew gay scouts and leaders and didn't care. The reason…because its not about sexual orientation, its about the skills and lessons you learn there. Not the orientation of the leaders or scouts but the tools in life needed to succeed.

Meh, I wonder when people are going to realize what they are doing is beyond counter-productive? You're forcing an organization via bullying/harassment that doesn't want gays in their organization to accept gays. Regardless, making them lift the ban isn't going to change their mindset about gays..

They don't want men ( leaders) praying on young gay boys.

Jenna is doing a great job of her pregnancy. The walking oxygenates the bloodstream for the baby apart from keeping fit. Great couple, blessings.

Re: frank – You don't know what you are talking about. Private organizations can do what they want AS LONG AS IT IS LAWFUL. You're acting like private organizations can do whatever the hell they want, even if it means molesting the boys or not allowing black members. That is what your logic entails. NO, they cannot do whatever the fuck they want. "Men are born and remain free and equal in rights."

Glancing through a retro Boys Scout handbook you notice how filled it is with skills you must learn and rules you must follow. Apparently gadar

is one of the important skills a scout must develop as the rules were clearly spelled out when it came to sexual orientation…scouting was not for all boys!

The Boy Scouts have long held on to this antiquated policy reflecting a time when gays were silent and invisible. The longtime policy of banning gays is as dated and quaint as the retro handbook and the vintage illustrations from Boys Life magazine you can view at
