I stopped taking medication (advil, Tylenol…), about five years ago. They made me more sick. Now I just use peppermint oil on my temple for headaches, and lots of fresh fruits and water for colds.

I'm with him on the psychological medicine. I was put on antidepressants and anxiety medicine as a young teen for mild depression and anxiety. It only made it worse and worse over the years until I couldn't go to school. I was put on pain medicine for migraines when I really needed to treat the migraine not the pain. All of it really messed me up as a teen. I needed help with my migraines but I wish my parents would've went with what my grandparents would've done, which is just push me and I would've been fine. If you really need medicine because of bad depression, bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia, I get it. Being sad shouldn't be treated with medicine. It's normal to not always be happy. Unless you are a threat to yourself or others, medicine should be a last resort.

Some children/adults most definitely need ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) medication. But this drug is highly over prescribed. However, for the people who actually need it, it is a lifesaver. He should not say what he will and/or will not give his child. He has no idea what genes his child has been born with, and won't know until his child reaches pre-school or even grade school age. It is easy to say what you will or won't do with your child when they are brand new. His own experience as a child sounds like he did not actually have ADHD, but maybe his child does — hopefully not. At any rate, the medication for this disease can be a major lifesaver for the people who actually need it, so his comments are not validated at this point. They are validated for his own childhood experience, but not for what lies in the future.

I wouldn't want my child to be medicated either. So many doctors rush to give medication to children when it isn't always necessary. I go medicine from when i was a baby until i was 3 years old for epilepsy cause I had a seizure when i was 6 months old and close to a year old. My dad was the one to tell them he wants me off the medicine. I am 27 years old and haven't had a seizure in 26 years.

Finally someone dares to speak the truth! Parents are medicating because they don't have time or patience to parent, not because their kids need it! yes, there are some kids who do need meds, but not nearly as many as are on it. It's bad parenting, end of story.

Re: fancypants66 – He can say what ever he wants to say about his child. It's his choice to give his child medicine.
