Heath Ledger's father was on hand to honor his son last night as Australians In Film and the Heath Ledger Scholarship celebrated their five-year anniversary in Los Angeles.
Kim Ledger spoke out about the scholarship honoring his son, and said it was very important to him to give back to his fellow actors looking to break into the scene.
"I've had actors come up to me and say, 'You know if it wasn't for Heath giving us two or three months free of charge in his home, we would have never gotten a foot in the place. It's one of those industries where everybody supports each other, since it's so hard to make a bite. Heath was subject to that when he first started in Sydney, then he repaid the favors tenfold."
Kim also spoke a little bit about his personal life and says Heath's daughter Matilda is certainly taking after her daddy:
"She's got daddy's eyes, and she's quite tall for her age. She's a beautiful child."
He says Michelle Williams deserves a ton of credit and has done a great job raising the little one:
"Michelle [Williams] does a great job. She protects her the way that she can. She protects her from too much exposure, sending her to a lovely school; she's growing into a polite, beautiful individual."
It's so great to see Heath being remembered in such a positive light, and even though he was taken from us far too early, there are still great things happening in his name!
Hopefully the Heath Ledger Scholarship can continue to help aspiring actors achieve their goals and follow their dreams just like he did!
