Over the past couple of decades, the number of children growing up with incarcerated parents has skyrocketed to nearly 2.7 million.
But despite the growing issue, there aren't many outlets for kids with this problem to deal with their emotions.
That's why Sesame Street decided to create a workshop called Little Children, Big Challenges: Incarceration to help children dealing with this issue!
The iconic kid's program has introduced a new character named Alex, who has a tough time coping with the fact that his dad is currently in prison, and although he wont serve as a regular on the show, he will help teach kids how to handle some of the emotions, such as anger and guilt, that come along with having a parent in jail!
It's so great to see Sesame Street tackling an issue that simply isn't being talked about, and hopefully it will give more kids a healthy way to learn about dealing with such a big problem!
Ch-ch-check out Alex's introduction (above)!
