Penelope Cruz & Javier Bardem Have Apparently Given Their Daughter An Over The Moon Name!

| Filed under: Baby BlabberPenelope CruzJavier Bardem

penelope cruz javier bardem baby daughter name luna

The oh-so secretive couple might have one less secret to hold on to!

Even though Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem still haven't confirmed the birth of their new daughter, it seems it did happen and she does have a name!

They might not be revealing the deets, but Spanish magazine Vanitatis has reportedly found out that the happy couple named their little girl Luna Encinas Cruz!

Luna means moon while Encinas is Javier's first surname.

Despite the name not being confirmed, we certainly like the idea of their little boy Leonardo having a little sister named Luna!

It's definitely not the strangest celeb baby name we've ever heard!

It is not strange at all, Luna is a common name here in Spain.

Call me confused but is Bardem the baby's last name and Cruz a middle name?? Or, in Spain, the baby takes the mother's name? Kidding.

Re: namers – In Spain, traditionally the baby takes the first surname of both the parents. The surnames are usually ordered: father's first and then mother's. This is not a law - you can actually choose to pass on your mother's surname to your child if you wish - but the majority of people stick with tradition.

When many people shorten their name they usually just use their first surname (ie their father's surname) but Javier uses his second surname as a stage name.

Penélope's full name is Penélope Cruz Sánchez and Javier's is Javier Ángel Encinas Bardem.

So their children would have the surname Encinas Cruz. It's not traditional for Spanish people to have middle names but it's not uncommon to have two first names (which usually get shorted together eg María Jesús = Chus; José Enrique = Jokí.
