Judge Orders Child's Name Be Changed From Messiah So As Not To Offend God!

| Filed under: Baby BlabberWacky, Tacky & TrueLegal MattersIcky Icky Diaper Poo

Seriously???

A mother from Newport, Tennessee is appealing a court's ruling after a judge ordered her and her husband to change their son, which just so happens to be Messiah!

Another strange thing is the mother, Jaleesa Martin, was in court with her baby's daddy because they couldn't agree on a last name for their baby - which is when the judge brought up his issue with the first name.

Here's what the judge reportedly said:

"The word Messiah is a title and it's a title that has only been earned by one person and that one person is Jesus Christ."

Wait what?? How can a judge decide if a name is proper or not?!

Which is exactly what the mother's reaction was!

Here's what she said:

"I was shocked. I never intended on naming my son Messiah because it means God and I didn't think a judge could make me change my baby's name because of her religious beliefs."

We're pretty sure we didn't think that was possible either! This is still America, right?

Oh Perez, if they named him satan, after your master, would it bother you then?

Whether it's a religious reference or not, Messiah is a pretty dumb name anyways. The kid would probably be bullied mercilessly when he's older.

Re: Jessica – Thanks, just what I was thinking. Too many parents only seem to care about their wishes these days and not about how it will affect their child growing up. I had a somewhat unusual unisex name and got teased a lot up thru 6th grade.

Arent you Americans all about your freedom and dont you usually go crazy when someone tries to take it away? Well this judge is taking away someones freedom, and whether you think the name is offensive, rude or just plain stupid, that woman still has every right to call her child what she wants.

Wow. Whether or not the judge should have been allowed to change the kid's name, it's pretty upsetting to hear that parents pick stupid names like this without having any idea what it means! Sure, you can do whatever you want, but if you're choosing a name that a child has to live with for life (or at least until they're 18 and can change it)…Are you really that dumb that you can't bother to google it and see if the name has any associations that might not be desirable? It's like throwing together some syllables that you think sound good without bothering to check and see if it means "poop" in another language. Real classy, parents.

Well imagine - it was in September 1970 in Switzerland a little girl was born and her parents decided to name her Anuschka - they had to go to court to get it approved as it was (and still is) a very uncommon name for Switzerland.

You will maybe not believe but things like North West, Apple, Tallullah Belle or whatever is not able to here. and I appreciate this!
