One Direction More Important Than God? Parents Want Communion Day Rescheduled Due To A 1D Concert Conflict!

one directions dublin concert date is on schools holy communion day and causes a vote off

Holy shizz! 1D is clearly holier than thou!

The primary school Raheen Gaelscoil in Limerick city have about 30 pupils set to receive their First Communion in May of 2014 which is definitely super exciting for those children and their families!

But in a spot of bad luck, a number of students also possess close-to-holy One Direction tickets that is set to occur on that same date, and some parents wanted the date of the communion changed.

So a vote was set to ALL of the parents if they would like to change the date, and the final conclusion was a resounding NO to changing the date!

Not only that but a lot of parents were super upset at the "disrespect shown to the blessed sacrament" in the request of a date change in the first place!

Here's what the school's statement said:

"Further to requests from a small number of parents to change the planned date of May 24 next for the reception of Holy Communion for the first time for our 2nd Class (Year Two) pupils, Gaelscoil an Ráithín, in order to reach the fairest outcome for all concerned, balloted parents overnight on this matter. The result of that ballot has been overwhelmingly in favour of retaining the original date. Staff, parents and children of Gaelscoil an Ráithín look forward to preparing for this very special celebration next May."

Now we can understand both sides of this issue! For parents of children that aren't going to the concert, why should they reschedule their plans? Their kids aren't missing out!

And for parents that do have the tickets - we can understand their side, too. Those tickets were probably super expensive!

Luckily for the parents that did buy the tickets, the concert is totally sold out, and the resale price of these tickets is almost double what the original price was!

We're sure 1D will come back to Dublin at some point, so it isn't like this is the last chance to see the boy band!

Although we wouldn't want to be in those parents' position as they try and explain to their children how they're going to miss out on that concert! That doesn't sound fun at all!

If you are going to commit your child and have them participate in a sacrament as important as they're Holy Communion, One Direction doesn't matter. Seriously parents? Where are your priorities? How are you going to bring them up in a religion, and put them in a religious based school, and teach them certain rules and morals, but as soon as One Direction comes into the picture, all those morals and ethics mean nothing. It was your choice to spend $200 on tickets, and if you end up missing the beginning of the concert, then oh well. You need to teach your kids what is right morally, especially if you are referring to a religion. If you bring up your kids in a house of God, where the life of God is taught to them everyday, he comes first. I myself was brought up into a strict house of Orthodoxy, and there are days where I did miss church for work or for school or something else. But this is their first communion; that's something you should be pushing your child to do, if that's what you raised them to be. Not pulling them out of it to go see One Direction.

I wish one direction would disappear, their hot guys that have crappy music that psychotic 12 year olds listen too, ok don't get me wrong, some of the fans are ok… but when they attack people for not liking them, it causes problems, and on the top of that non of them guys can have proper relationships without the fans ruining now…. This whole article is just ridiculous if you ask me.

There isn't just one day on the calendar that people can get their first Communion. There is absolutely NO reason why the date couldn't be changed.
This really isn't that big of a deal…

ID will interrupt a first communion? HAHAHAHA!! Well now we know EXACTLY which age group they appeal to - the EIGHT YEAR OLDS!

Actually, some schools in Dublin actually changed the dates of their Communion to before and after the 1D concert so that the children with tickets can go. And those parents in Limerick can still make the concert of they head to Dublin after the Communion and don't have any celebrations. So, there's no real problems

    Re: Ellie

Ellie, I find most parents whose children are making their Holy Communion aren't the slightest bit religious. They haven't been to a mass in years and don't even know some of the prayers or that mass has changed. Their only doing it because it's expected of them, especially due to the prevalence of Catholicism in Ireland and it's school system.

These kids are babies, only in grade 2. Why in the blazes are 7 year old kids going to an older teen concert, anyway? There should be no conflict. Hmmm. Major sacrament, or One Direction concert. Only when your priorities are effed up does it become a dilemma.

Well what time is the communion? We went to one in Northern California for a friends' daughter and I recall it was sometime in the afternoon. So maybe they could do both. Or maybe the school could keep the date but change the time.

OMG!! I don't even have words for how offensive this is. It's like your spouse asking you if it's cool to have a roll in the hay with other people. It's SUPPOSED to be sacred and holy event. I mean, it's supposed to be for GOD!!! And you're not supposed to have false gods. What if something came up to truly test their faith. What's the point of raising kids in a religion if you're taking it as joke!?!?!? Just raise them agnostic or something. I'm not even religious and find this whole request by the parent absolutely disgusting!!!!!
