What a courageous story!!!
Carson Daly is one of the TODAY correspondents who's participating in their #InspiredBy series where they reveal touching stories about the people whose courage has inspired them.
After his mom Pattie Daly Caruso endured the heartbreak of losing her husband to bladder cancer when Carson was a young child, she also has more recently suffered from breast cancer during the late '90s when Carson was a host on MTV's TRL.
Carson opened up on the show, revealing what happened on that particularly hard day:
"I remember getting a phone call in my dressing room literally minutes before TRL started one day, and it was my mom telling me she'd been diagnosed with breast cancer," he said. "I remember the sinking feeling, and I said I'm on my way. She said don't you dare. You have a live show to do. She's selfless… Her life is a constant example for me for how to bear that cross. If you can make an impact every time you're with a fellow human being, wouldn't that be wonderful? And my mom every day makes hundreds of positive impacts on people's lives."
Thankfully, Pattie survived thanks to a mastectomy, so she could have many more years with her children.
Carson, who has two kids of his own, also added:
"Having a strong parent has been such an inspiration because it's a constant reminder for me to find my own pillar of strength and to be that for my own growing family.”
We don’t even know his mom and she’s inspired us!
Thanks for sharing!
