Uh oh! Someone may be in trouble!
Kris Jenner is in a major legal battle with her daughters' ex step mom Ellen Kardashian, who they are suing for releasing the late Robert Kardashian's diaries, and Ellen is countersuing for a whole mess of accusations herself!
One of those accusations is the way she was portrayed on the family's reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
Kris Jenner swore in court that neither her or her family are responsible for the ex step mom's portrayal because they are not the ones in charge of editing on any of their reality shows. But is that the whole truth?
Here for now is what Kris said in her sworn declaration:
“I hold the title of President of Jenner Communications, Inc.. Jenner Communications, Inc., (JCI) is and acts as the management company for the Kardashian/Jenner/Odom/Disick families. JCI contracts to provide there personal services of myself to E! for the show. JCI is not a producer of, nor does it receive any producer credits for or related to, the Show. JCI, myself, and my family members, that are the subject of the show, are not responsible for the editing or the production of the show. After episodes are filmed and edited, we are provided the opportunity to provide comments and suggestions to BMP as to footage in a particular episode that has been filmed from or about our lives and BMP does take those into account.”
However Kim Kardashian has PREVIOUSLY said in an interview how "cool" it was for her family to be able "edit and approve all the footage"!!!
Here's what Kim said:
“I mean, I’m really particular on what I show about, you know, any relationship that I may have. Or there are so many personal things. And what’s so cool is our relationship with the show is from the start, they’ve always said we have, you know, the right to edit and to approve all the footage.”
Kris Jenner has said in the past that she can "edit" scenes if she chooses to, but it did not seem to be the total control way that Kim made it seem like.
As for Kris' legal team - they claim there is no contradiction and Kris was completely honest in her statement.
Here's what a legal representative for the Kardashians said:
“Ms. Jenner’s statements are accurate and consistent with prior statements. The Kardashian’s are ‘not responsible for the editing or production of the Show. After the production company films and edits the footage from or about their lives to create a particular episode, the Kardashian’s are allowed the opportunity to provide input and make comments as to captured footage, and BMP ‘does take those into account’ in editing.”
Although it seems like the Kardashians are NOT the ones whom go in to the editing room and physically press the buttons to chop up the film - it definitely seems as if they review all episodes before they air, and can throw out anything they don't like.
Which would seem to mean that the whole defense of not holding authority over the editing process wouldn't really hold up in court.
We think at least!
Then again - we're not the lawyers!
