Well, we called this one.
Srsly, though, the drama never stops with this Teen Mom!
The star of VH1's new season of Couples Therapy, Farrah Abraham, was thought to have a real life boyfriend named Brian Dawe.
So, we thought it was a bit strange why he wouldn't appear on the show with his girl. Well, now Brian is saying that their relationship was absolutely fabricated (gasp!) and that he decided to back out of the show because his conscience wouldn't allow him to go through with it!
"I got myself in this situation because I was only thinking about the profit I would be making from doing this show. That was wrong. In the back of my head I realized I could not participate in a TV show that would further exploit Farrah, and where I would have to lie to be involved."
The "pretend relationship" was apparently ALL Farrah's idea, and he went along with it for the money!
"Farrah told me to lie to the network and tell them the relationship was real. [The network offered me] a substantial amount of money.”
Brian also admitted that the photographs of him and Farrah (like the one above) were totally staged, and he was astonished at how much attention they received! In fact, he revealed:
"I had no idea what these photos would be used for, but assumed it would be for her to promote or market our relationship. She told me after the shoot that she sells the photos to various tabloids… I was astonished at the amount of media coverage it received."
Still, Brian Dawe's bags were packed, and he was ready to go. But right before he was about hop and leave on that jet plane - Brian got some cold feet and backed out, saying:
"I checked my bags and got into the airport security line. When I was in that line it really hit me what I was doing. I stepped out of the security line and made a life changing decision to stand up for what I believe in and turn down the check I would be receiving for my appearance on this show."
After missing his plane he got an email from one of the producers on the show that read:
"Martin, I just left you a message. Please call me ASAP. Brian didn’t make his flight and we MUST make sure he gets to LA and participates in the show. Please my call my cell…This is urgent."
Brian replied a few hours later, and put a resounding end to the matter. He wrote:
"I have informed you previously that I will not be participating in the show for the following reason: My professional ethics and career objectives preclude my participation in a program which purports a factual relationship between me and other participants that are not based on a factual reality. Under advice from management and legal council I can not proceed further with this non contractual arrangement. This will be my final communication on this matter."
Key word - "non contractual agreement!"
So Brian was able to pull his Houdini-esque escape without any serious consequences! He even says he turned down the network's anted financial offer after his initial refusal!
Farrah's response, however, was pretty nice according to Brian:
"I have not spoken with Farrah since she sent me a text after I did not show up on set saying she wishes me all the best and to take care."
But that doesn't mean she'll take all of this with a smile on her face!
The trailer for the show hints that Farrah kind-of, sort-of claims Brian "purposefully" ditched her, and her therapy is based on this very abandonment issue! We doubt Brian's claim that the relationship was a sham will be touched upon much on the show. Or maybe it will be - for like an episode.
We definitely don't think Couples Therapy will mention Farrah's alleged attempt to bribe another male human to pretend to be her boyfriend on the show.
As for Brian Dawe, he's learned a lot from all of this. Including that reality television isn't all that it appears!
