Her family's a bit more traditional, but that doesn't mean this lady rests on her laurels!
Modern Family's Julie Bowen and her husband Scott Phillips are raising a 6-year-old boy named Oliver and 4-year-old twins named John and Gus.
But despite her hubby's wishes - Julie and him are the ones taking care of their brood most of the time.
Even though they totally could hire a full time nanny if they wanted to!
“We definitely go nanny-free far more than my husband would like and that started with us … on the weekends. I’m not a saint and that’s not to say we have never had a scoch of help on the weekends, but we never had anyone regular.”
But why is Julie so insistent on this arrangement? Well, it's because she thinks it is important. And we are inclined to agree!
“I felt that it was important — and I forced my husband into this line of belief — that we do have three kids and we need to know how to be with three kids. I know many families who have one child or three or four children and the thought of being alone with them for a weekend is pure hell. Now, I’m not going to say it’s not, but we at least know how to do it and I think it’s important to maintain that.”
When her sons were younger, it was a bit harder for Julie to handle everything. But as they've grown - she's been able to relax more!
“I can leave all three of them playing in a room and go make dinner. Eighteen months ago that wasn’t possible because one of them would start crawling up something to jump off — they couldn’t use any common sense.”
Plus it isn't only Julie Bowen's choice to be home with her kids a lot. That's how her sons prefer it!
In fact, when she does have to go out - they don't always make things easy for their momma!
“Emotional blackmailing and manipulation is in full swing. When I have to go to an event, out to dinner or to work sometimes, I get a whole lot of blow back. Barring the door, weeping in the driveway, demanding candy — ‘I demand candy or I will never stop crying’ — and that is a lot more difficult to deal with.”
But it's also sweet. It shows how much they love her!
Which we can totally understand. What's not to love???
