We smell a new squad in our midst!
However, it appears the epic collaborative performance gave an even cooler gift in the form of new best friends, Blue Ivy Carter and Apple Martin.
For the snap, the Oscar winner wrote:
Yesterday in Roswell, New Mexico a middle school student, whose name is Mason Campbell, shot two other children with a sawed off 20-gauge shotgun before a teacher convinced the boy to put the weapon down.
The two children who were injured included an unnamed 11-year-old child who is fighting for his life, and a 13-year-old girl named Kendal Sanders whose injuries aren't life threatening but was shot in the upper shoulder.
12-year-old Mason Campbell apparently walked into the Berrendo Middle School gymnasium and fired off three shots before classes started. The victims were NOT targeted, but were chosen at random — according to authorities. However the attack was planned in advance.
Witnesses say that a teacher "quickly stopped" the suspect by walking up to him and asking him to put down the firearm, which he did. The boy was taken into custody.
Although Mason Campbell has been charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon - the law in New Mexico does not allow children under the age of 14 to be tried as adults. Which means that the maximum penalty that Mason Campbell may face is the chance of being locked up until he is 21-years-old. Although the chances of him never even going into incarceration at all are far more likely.
The judge in this traumatic case has ordered the 12-year-old to undergo a mental health evaluation, according to the boy's attorney. Here is part of the accused's family's statement:
"As a family we will cooperate in all ways with law enforcement to piece together how this awful tragedy occurred. We have confidence in our capable southern New Mexico law enforcement, the District Attorney, and our Judges. We pray also for each of them as they undertake their hard work and investigative efforts."
Right now we're just hoping the two victims in this awful shooting recover from their terrifying injuries.
Our prayers and thoughts go out to them and their families.
