Tyler Doohan was the 8-year-old boy who died in a fire after rescuing six relatives when he ran back into the burning mobile home to try and save his disabled grandfather.
Sadly, they both died in the fire.
Tyler is a true hero, sacrificing his life for the ones he loved, soo he is being given the honors he absolutely deserves: a firefighter’s funeral.
The Penfield Fire Company had an honor guard standing by Tyler’s remains during calling hours since Monday.
After a church service for Tyler today, the fire company’s chief is going to declare Tyler an honorary firefighter and give his family a special fire helmet with his name on it.
"The young man acted with a lot of courage and bravery to try to rescue his grandfather after rescuing other members of his family. He showed valor and strength, and paid the ultimate sacrifice. We want to honor him in a way family and friends will remember and look at him as a hero. He should be looked at as going above and beyond, even putting his life in danger… This is what firefighters do."
At Tyler’s service, firefighters from several departments will stand at attention in their formal dress uniforms, with bagpipers even playing!
That’s so amazing! Tyler is getting the honors he truly deserves.
He’s a genuine hero and deserves to be honored as one!!
