So Infuriatingly Sad: 5-Year-Old Child Dies After Parents Force Her To Drink More Than 2 Liters Of Grape Soda & Water

5 year old dies drinking 2 liters grape soda water brain damage

The only thing good to come of this story is that the parents are locked up.

Back on Jan. 1, 2012, a 5-year-old named Alexa Linboom died after her parents forced her to drink more than two liters of grape soda and water. And now, they've finally been arraigned Friday on charges of murder, abuse and neglect.

The East Tennessee couple are accused of making the girl drink so much that her brain swelled and ruptured, and have been charged with murder, abuse and neglect.

The horrible human beings? Randall Vaughn and his wife Mary, who are both jailed on $500,000 bond each.

After the punishment, they brought the girl in to the hospital emergency room with "an abnormal body posture that indicates severe brain damage." She was blue and unresponsive, according to an autopsy done in July 2013. That's because she had been forced to drink approximately 2.4 liters of water and soda over one to two hours. AS PUNISHMENT.

It gets worse — and we're sorry you're about to read this…

After drinking that amount she began vomiting, urinated on herself and asked to take a bath, and then the report said:

"Outside of the bathtub, she tried to eat oatmeal with assistance then started clenching her hands."

It was 2 to 3 hours LATER that she was taken to the hospital. The report continued:

"Caretakers told hospital staff that during the ride to the hospital, she sat up in the vehicle and played patty cake."

She was pronounced brain dead two days later.

The autopsy states that the girl had moved to Tennessee to live with her father about three months before her death. The move was prompted by allegations of neglect at her previous home.

Her obituary describes her as a normal, happy little girl:

"Some of the things that brought enjoyment to her life was coloring, playing with her Barbie dolls, her love of animals, but her most joy came when playing with her brothers and sisters."

THERE WERE OTHER KIDS.

Apparently she lived in the home with five other children, some of which were half-siblings. The kids were removed from the home and put into protective services.

We feel so sad, so sick over this. What is there to even say?

Parents like this deserve nothing but the worst. A child relies on you for protection and love, and if you fail all of that on purpose, then, nothing can be done for you.

Just awful.

It's such a tragic and needless loss of a little life. What do you want to bet that the parents had no clue that drinking too much could kill her?

Lower IQ's are the root of all… well.. an inordinately large percentage of evil. Any IQ study of incarcerated prisoners is very revealing about what types of people commit crimes that result in fatalities. Its the 90 IQ crowd. The 83 IQ crowd.
You cant tell someone's IQ by merely looking at them but………….. if I was a gambling man…. i'd bet that her IQ is around 85 and his around 91. Just on appearances alone. This type of crime, is not something I would expect a 130 IQ person to commit. High IQ humans know that water is toxic in high amounts. These two are PROOOOOF that with age does NOT come wisdom. Wisdom only comes with brains. Anybody with high IQ's can have brains.

This is just awful. Stories about the defenseless being abused are the worst.
Thank you for sharing the article.

I had no clue you could kill yourself by drinking too much water until that lady died after some radio show contest years back. If I'd never heard it on the news, never would have known or know now.

Why would parents punish a child by drinking grape soda? What am I missing? We rarely had sodas when I was growing up (except grocery store brands on camping trips). We, my brothers and sisters, would probably knock each other over to get to a 2-liter of grape soda.

It's reading stories like these that make me question the intelligence and sanity of those who are against the death penalty. These two should absolutely pay for their crime with their lives. They forfeited the right to live by doing this to that poor little girl.

Perez as a new father these kind of stories have to hit different nerves. Once you have kids and you hear this stuff you get even more upset it seems. People like this are simply the scum of the earth and you only hole they get their "punishment" in prison.

PUNISHMENT FOR WHAT?? did she drink the last bit after being told not to? So they bought more & made her drink it all…& what the f*ck was the bright idea w/the oatmeal? To soak up the soda & water? OMG! Stupid!! & seriously "patty cake"? with who? & are we supposed to believe that?? I bet the both of them don't have an IQ of 2…just give 'em the death penalty.Rid the world of two more murderers!
