Alabama Legislators Have Passed A Bill That Will Force Students To Pray Every Morning!

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TruePolitikSad SadCute Kidz

alabama public schools prayer

Religious or not, it's SO weird how backwards legislature can be!

We mean — it totally says there needs to be a separation of church and state flat-out in our government, so when we hear that Alabama legislature has passed a bill that requires students to pray every morning… well, you can understand our confusion!

Isn't it 2014??

Apparently the key committee in Alabama's House of Representatives pushed the bill through last week, which says teacher and students in public schools must spend 15 minutes deep in Christian prayer.

Luckily, it sounds like a majority of legislators present say they opposed the measure even though it was pushed through. How it got pushed through, though? Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin, R-Indian Springs, chairwoman of the committee, said she heard more votes in favor of the bill — and what we're hearing is that's a little shady!

Here's what the Montgomery Advertiser:

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Steve Hurst, R-Munford, would require teachers to spend no more than 15 minutes in the first class of each day to read, verbatim, opening prayers said before a meeting of the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate.

We can't imagine any situation in this day and age where this seems like a good idea.

Having the freedom from all of this stuff is what makes us, us. Kids do not need legislature telling them what to pray!

Nobody does!

Wow, I am a hypocrite? Where does it say anything about being gay MORON. You just assumed this. I happen to have 2 gay brothers that I am beyond proud of. I am talking about how and what are children are being raised with. What they have to face. What is happening to our country. Being a gay man or women is tough and in no way would I wrong someone of what is natural to them. How dare you point the wrong finger at me.

So if it goes through there will be a lawsuit filed, they will fight it out in court and it will be overturned. Some states do this crap every day….like they have unlimited money to waste on fighting in court.

Have all the religion you want people……..but have it in your home and in your church. It doesn't belong in our schools. Your religion might not be my religion and why should I have to listen to your prayers or have my child subjected to your prayers and your God?

yea i do not see teachers actually taking time out to teach students about the bible. There is no time in the day to do that. What ever happened to separation in Church and State? this is totally wrong…

Religion should be separated from education, for the simple reason that common education has nothing to do with personal beliefs. Also, it shouldn't be forced upon children who aren't religious or who have a different religion. I understand that many Americans are still religious and especially in the southern states, but this is ridiculous.

Re: jojo – Yes it does: "…students in public schools must spend 15 minutes deep in Christian prayer."

This is a southern republican state after all. They care little for the US constitution. However I want ALL federal tax monies going to Alabama to be halted immediately. I do not want one thousands of a cent of my money going to fund them violating the first amendment.
