This lady does so much in such limited time.
Angelina Jolie was recently spotted attending the BAFTAs with Brad Pitt, but she hasn't forgotten her responsibilities as a UNHCR Special Envoy.
A week or so after making her rounds at the awards show the starlet flew to Lebanon where she visited a Syrian Refugee Settlement. Angelina spent three days with some of the 3,500 orphaned and displaced children at the camp. The location of the camp is in the eastern Bekaa Valley of Lebanon, and Angelina Jolie called the time she spent there "heart-rending".
The particular photo (above) was taken this past Sunday on February 23rd.
In a statement she said:
"Meeting these children was a heart-rending experience. They have lost their families and their childhood has been hijacked by war. They are so young, yet they are bearing the burdens of their reality as if they are adults."
It's reported that children account for about one third of all the Syrians displaced by the war in their country.
Jolie also praised Lebanon for providing sanctuary to a lot of the refugees fleeing Syria, and said the international community would do well to support the country as much as possible. She said:
"The generosity and solidarity shown by Lebanon and Lebanese to its neighbor serves as an example to the world for which we should all be grateful. We all need to help them bear this burden. I spent time in the Bekaa Valley recently with Syrian refugees, and they are very grateful to the people of Lebanon. They are clearly very traumatized from what has happened to them in Syria.”
Angelina Jolie also praised the UN Security Council aid resolution which proposes to boost aid access in Syria.
“I hope that – and I welcome – the Security Council resolution, but as one of the refugee men said to me: ‘For now for us it is only a piece of paper, and until it is implemented and until we see change, that is all it is, but we are grateful and we hope that it does make a difference for us.’”
This isn't the first time Angelina Jolie has gone to Lebanon on behalf of the UNHCR. In fact it's actually her third visit. Her most recent trip there was in September 2012.
We're so grateful the world has a Angelina Jolie. Her work is incredibly important, and is irreplaceable.
