We're just glad she's safe now.
A Moroccan girl kidnapped in Spain over seven months ago was recently found and rescued in the Amazon Rainforest in Bolivia by Bolivian police who also arrested her kidnapper.
The 9-year-old girl was searched for by authorities for months who had basically given up hope of ever finding her again before this miraculous turn of events happened. The girl is believed to be healthy and in good condition.
Her alleged kidnapper has been identified as a Bolivian national named Grover Morales. He had taken the girl to a remote location in the heart of the rainforest in the central Cochabamba region where they were living with an indigenous tribe. Reports are that Morales was treating the little girl as his wife. The location where they were found is barely accessible by car.
The circumstances and details of how the young girl was kidnapped are strange and unclear. The parents had apparently given Morales, their neighbor, permission to take the little girl on a vacation. They only reported their belief their daughter had been kidnapped after a number of days when they couldn't get in touch with their daughter or Morales.
Suspected kidnapper Morales even claims the parents gave him permission to marry their nine-year-old daughter. He said:
"I had her parent's trust. Her mother told me if you have intentions to marry my daughter you will be welcome and I will allow you to do so. So I filled the required paperwork, went with them to sign a power of attorney, and I was given the authorization to take her. I haven't stolen, killed, or kidnapped anyone."
Morales, for his part, will face charges of human trafficking and sexual abuse.
The little girl, who was rescued on Saturday, is expected to be returned to her family in Spain very soon.
We're just glad she's OK. What a horrific experience for her to have gone through.
