little girl forced to leave school because they felt she dressed like a boy which didnt follow biblical standards

Our calendars must be wrong because this is such bullshizz it TOTALLY seems like a April Fool's Day prank!

Albeit a pretty unfunny one!

A little girl named Sunnie Kahle in Timberlake, Virginia was forced to leave and subsequently taken out of her Christian elementary school because school officials felt her hair was too short, her clothes were too baggy, and basically they felt she dressed like a boy.

Apparently dressing like a boy when you're not a boy didn't meet the school's "biblical standards," so they sent a ridiculous letter home to her grandparents!

Well, Sunnie's grandparents decided to do the right thing and take their little girl out of the school instead of making her conform her personal style, but they are NOT happy about how everything went down!

Especially since Sunnie loved the original school she went to a ton!

The grandparents shared the letter that they had received from the Christian elementary school which said:

"You're probably aware that Timberlake Christian School is a religious, Bible believing institution providing education in a distinctly Christian environment…We believe that unless Sunnie as well as her family clearly understand that God has made her female and her dress and behavior need to follow suit with her God-ordained identity, that TCS is not the best place for her future education."

The letter baffled Sunnie's grandfather Carroll Thompson. He said:

"How do you label a child, eight years old, or discriminate against an eight year old child? It just don't happen."

Her grandmother Doris also is upset with the school's actions. She said:

"She cries every morning to get on the bus, she cries when she comes home because she wants to go back to Timberlake Christian with her friends…Sunnie says, 'I'm a girl, I know I'm a girl'…How do you tell a child when she wants to wear pants a shirt, and go out and play in the mud and so forth, how do you tell her, no you can't, you've got to wear a pink bow in your hair, and you've got to let your hair grow out long, how do you do that? I can't do that."

Administrators at Timberlake Christian claim they've done nothing wrong. They simply want Sunnie's grandparents to follow the school's rules they've set for all of their students. They claim that they haven't accused Sunnie of anything, and that the issues with her go "far beyond her hair length".

If that's the case - then how can they explain that letter they sent where they say that Sunnie and her family need to "understand that God has made her female and her dress and behavior need to follow suit"?

The grandparents have no plans in enrolling in the school, and we don't blame them.

It's sad though that a little girl has to leave behind all of her friends because some adults don't agree with the way she presents herself. Sad and downright disturbing.

Asians can hear, and see what you’re visually thinking.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE OR A MEME! This is the absolute complete truth!!!!
    .
Asians hide their mind reading abilities by a lot of them having completely expressionless faces so they don’t accidentally show facial expressions when people think things they don’t like, find funny, astonishing, etc, Asians segregate so their not nearly as susceptible to that happening.
Asians also segregate, and are untalkative to avoid accidentally saying things that are similar to what people are thinking and going to say.
    .
All Asians are keeping their mind reading abilities a secret, they don’t want ANYONE to know they can read minds! They value hiding it more than their own lives!!!
    .
Try thinking, and visually picturing things as wild as you can when you are around Asians, it works if you try enough!!! Also look for Asians who give people dirty/particular looks for what appears to be for completely no reason.
    .
PLEASE SPREAD THE MESSAGE!!!!! THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW THIS!!!!!

How dare they. It's a disgusting shame that this bullying begins with the Administrative Staff of the school when it's hard enough for a child to deal with bullying from another child at school. Sunnie, you have done nothing wrong. Hold your head high and smile beautiful.

  3. 3

A lot of people like to blame children for the bullying but honestly, where do you think they get this behavior from? Ignorant and spineless parents that don't know how to teach their children something called /tolerance/.
Explain to little Jimmy that Jenny in his class has two dads and that's okay! Explain to them that some girls like to wear baggy clothes and have short hair! If you don't know how, just look it up online. We take our children for fools thinking that they won't understand.

Would Jesus Christ tell this little girl that she is not girly enough, these people are not Christian.

  5. 5

This is bananas…basically they kicked her out because they are saying she looks too much like a potential lesbian. What a Christian thing to do.

The American Taliban has spoken. The mullahs got together and decided this little girl needs to fit into their idea of what a woman is and what she wears. Welcome to Bible toting, beer swilling, flag waving America.

I know everyone will be upset with me but I understand and agree with the school. It's a religious school and they go by the bible. I went to a Jewish school my whole life and we had to dress a certain way to preserve modesty even at a young age. There are certain ways you need to dress for a religious institution even schools. If you want your child to dress any way they choose don't send them to a religious school. There are great non religious private schools out there. If you send your child to a religious school they need to follow how that religion requires you to dress.

This honestly doesn't surprise me. Timberlake Christian has always been known in our town as making rash decisions and claiming "biblical morality" for it. My freshman year of college I dated a guy who graduated from TCS and he told be that a tattoo that he got his senior year that said "God and Country" in latin caused him to be suspended for two weeks. That part of living in the buckle of the bible belt. People lose focus on the love were called by Jesus to give and instead choose to be bigoted and cruel to outsiders. Please don't assume that everyone from Lynchburg, Virginia is just like them. There really are true Christians who love and support this little girl and disagree with the ruling TCS has made.

Re: HannahCali – My child attends a religious school and dress code is to be followed however there is a uniform for all kids. If you want children to look/dress a certain way then provide or require a uniform.

    Re: HannahCali

I fully agree with you…they have certain rules that must be followed.it has nothing to do with discrimination. U have alot a reason. If the child doesn't wanna follow there rules she needs to go to another school..they feel she resembles a boy n if she stays other kids will feel it's okay to dress that way wen Its not in a Christian school…if the Lil gurl wants short hair n baggy clothes regular school is where she belongs..

    12

It's a private school not public so they make up their own rules.

Re: desiree – I was in uniform as a young child but when I entered middle school and high school we were expected to make choices about what is modest and appropriate according to the Torah. But the point is that you wouldn't send your daughter to an Orthodox Jewish school in pants and a t-shirt. You need to follow the beliefs of the school. And in this case the belief is to allow the students to make choices but also they needs to follow the bible. And this is not what the school believes.

I was a tomboy so I understand where littleSunnie is coming from, but what do you expect from a Christian school? This isn't my opinion but parishes strongly practice "homosexuality is a sin" so why wouldn't they kick out a girl who dresses as a boy? And what private school doesn't have uniforms?

Yeah but the rule concerning the Muslim girl is okay.

This is a story from our local news. The family lives a few counties over from us. This is what happens all the time with small town, small minded people. They definitely are not being "christian" by judging someone for how they dress. I was a tomboy growing up too! Stay strong Sunnie!!

    Re: HannahCali
I understand where you're coming from but I've never seen a religious school require you to dress girly or not cut your hair. I would understand if she had green hair and wore all black or tried to pass herself off as a boy, just because it's usually looked down upon by the church. But to kick her out for wearing a tee shirt and jeans is crazy.

My little brother had these amazingly beautiful curls in his hair. not too long but not short. and they were the most adorable thing ever! but always got told in his old school (by the nuns) that he looked like a girl, and that he should cut his hair like a boy. how do you live with yourself knowing that you made a boy cry because "why do they say i look like a girl? the other kids heard the nun and now they call me a girl" and he insisted on cutting his hair. his new school (also a religious school) had no problem with his hair when it grew back and when he cut it again his teacher told my mom "but it was so cute why did you cut it?"

  19. rose says – reply to this

    19

If that is the case all the older people with their short hair cut need to not be there either. Ok I understand rules and stuff but some of the wording in the letter is judgmental. Before you judge someone especially if it is from a religious school read the bible because apparently you don't know what it says.

The School is actually in Lynchburg VA. It is where i live, and i think its terrible! I am a christian myself but would never condone such behavior or ideas. Its so sad and pathetic that people think this way and treat others as such.

    22

Re: HannahCali – As a Christian I find this sickening. They go by PART the Bible obviously! Not any of the New Testament - or they would see ALL humans fell short. Also, "the law" made ALL exceedingly guilty just so they'd to go to Jesus and be saved and one with God. When guilty? you CANNOT keep the law yourself and have failed. So, WHO can cast a stone at another thinking they are better then their "sinful" target? Not a single one legitimately. Gods mercy is all that saves.

As for "following the Bible" you said? UM, DO THAT!! We are not under law but grace. Be saved so you are not either! Christ is THE END OF THE LAW FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS to ALL who believe. These people never saw the last 5 verses in Luke 17 I see! LOL. Even worse: this girl is not even one of them mentioned!

Romans 3:19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Scary huh. Good news: The Lords hand is out FULLTIME all you need do is be reborn. He will have mercy!! If he did not, NO ONE would be going to Heaven.

In other words: STOP the mouths Pharisees! You've failed just like those you're hating on. Who can be saved? ALL who go to Jesus. Amen

    And the problem is….?
The school have clearly identified their standards.
We live in a free society and that freedom means that both the kid and the school have the freedom to make choices. We are also lucky that we live in such a free society and if the kid does not fit the school then they can choose to either conform or go to another school. To me that is something we should celebrate.

The same kind of issue blows up about uniforms and hair styles and jewlery and wot not. What attracts one parent is not what is right for another. Likewise a school that is great for one kid is not a good fit for another. We should be thankful for the diversity and choice. It is that choice that makes our society free and strong.
