working moms open letter to gwyneth paltrow is satirical and amazing

Hell hath no fury like a working mother scorned!

Gwyneth Paltrow is in the midst of a breakup, so we're definitely inclined to cut her some slack these days.

However one working mother was NOT having it after Gwyneth said some pretty insensitive stuff during a recent interview.

Here's what she said:

"I think it's different when you have an office job, because it's routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening. When you're shooting a movie, they're like, 'We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,' and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult. I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it's not like being on set."

Well, that really got a mother named Mackenzie super angry! We can't blame her for being upset!

Here's what part of her open letter response said:

"As a mother of a toddler, I couldn’t agree more! 'Thank God I don’t make millions filming one movie per year' is what I say to myself pretty much every morning as I wait on a windy Metro-North platform, about to begin my 45-minute commute into the city. Whenever things get rough, all I have to do is keep reminding myself of that fact. It is my mantra."

The mother also commented on Gwyneth's remarks that when someone has an office job then “You can do all the stuff in the morning,” to which this momma said:

"That hit the nail on the head. As someone with an office job, my mornings are obviously pretty leisurely. Sometimes I even have time to drink half of my coffee before it gets cold! After my 6 a.m. wake-up, I have a lot of time to loll around, hopping in the shower and then throwing makeup on my face, hoping that I’ll have enough time to put my tights on before my son starts crying in his crib. Then, when he does start crying, I have to make the decision: Do I get fully dressed, or do I go tend to him with my hair still dripping wet? Talk about being spoilt for choice! Then I have a few Bellinis and adjust my 401(k) contributions."

Mackenzie even went after Gwyneth's health website Goop! She wrote:

"After I get home from work, I’m full of energy and ready to cook dinner using one of the recipes you post on your lifestyle Web site, Goop: slow-cooked kale, pancetta and bread crumbs, anyone?"

It's obvious that some parts of this open letter were over the top, but we absolutely agree that Gwyneth's remarks comparing the life a movie star mom to the life of an office mom were completely insensitive and pretty much wrong.

We're also relatively sure Gwyneth wasn't trying to diss office moms, but rather just show how her life CAN be hard too.

Even though to most people - it seems pretty much the epitome of luxury.

Check out the FULL letter (below)!

"Dear Gwyneth,

I really enjoyed your recent comments to E! about how easy an office job is for parents, compared to the grueling circumstances of being on a movie set. 'I think it’s different when you have an office job, because it’s routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening,” you said. “When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,’ and then you work 14 hours a day, and that part of it is very difficult. I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set.'

As a mother of a toddler, I couldn’t agree more!

“Thank God I don’t make millions filming one movie per year” is what I say to myself pretty much every morning as I wait on a windy Metro-North platform, about to begin my 45-minute commute into the city. Whenever things get rough, all I have to do is keep reminding myself of that fact. It is my mantra.

And I know all my fellow working-mom friends feel the same. Am I right, ladies?

We’re always gabbing about how easy it is to balance work and home life. Whenever I meet with them at one of our weekly get-togethers — a breeze to schedule, because reliable baby sitters often roam my neighborhood in packs, holding up signs peddling their services — we have a competition to see who has it easier. Is it the female breadwinners who work around the clock to make sure their mortgages get paid, lying awake at night, wracked with anxiety over the idea of losing their jobs? Or is it the mothers who get mommy-tracked and denied promotions? What about the moms with “regular” 9-to-5 jobs, who are penalized when their kids are sick and they don’t have backup child care?

Those women are living the dream, I tell you!

Which reminds me, child care. As you know, Gwynnie, having a staff can be a real drag. It’s so hard to find good help these days! That’s why it’s a good thing there’s all this nationally subsidized, high-quality day care lying around for the taking. It just makes things easier knowing you have such a strong support network and don’t have to pay someone anywhere from $30K to $65K annually to take care of your child full-time.

You mentioned in your E! interview that when someone has an office job, 'You know you can do all the stuff in the morning,' and that hit the nail on the head.

Then I have a few Bellinis and adjust my 401(k) contributions.

After I get home from work, I’m full of energy and ready to cook dinner using one of the recipes you post on your lifestyle Web site, Goop: slow-cooked kale, pancetta and bread crumbs, anyone? After that, I’ll go to yoga, spend a few hours meditating and maybe do some online shopping, picking up a pair of $350 white leopard-printed short-shorts via Goop in preparation for the “spring break” I’ll take with my husband and son.

If there’s one thing I look good in after having a child, it’s short-shorts.

So, Gwyneth, you’ve figured out the secret of working parents everywhere: Livin’ la vida desk job is a breeze compared to the 14-hour days of a film set. Fourteen hours? Who in New York — especially those in the finance, law and tech professions — could possibly work 14 whole hours?

Luckily, those 9-to-5 “ordinary job” hours grow on trees here.

And if you lose one, all you have to do is find another.

Yours,

Mackenzie"

Nice. I don't think this letter is over the top at all. Gwyneth was born into a life of privilege and she has absolutely no concept of what life is like for the average person - so she shouldn't pretend that she does. Of course, most of the rest of have no idea what working on a movie is like, but we do know that it is temporary - work hard (on a project you can afford to decline if you wish) for a few weeks then back to a life of luxury. I'd take that over an office job any day.

GP is just horrid. Ugly on the outside, ugly on the inside. No wonder no one can stay with her for more than a few years (though I can't understand the initial attraction anyway other than blond rich thin, she's at the bottom of the pile as far as looks in Hollywood go). What a tool.

Gwneth Paltrow lives in a fantasy world. She has no idea what it is like to be a normal person. She lives a charmed life, full of endless piles of money, vacations around the world, maids, chefs, nannys and Lord knows what else.

Maybe you should stop telling working mothers how hard your job is. I was an extra in a movie once. I payed attention to those LONG days you talk about. It must be hard sitting in your trailer, sipping expensive bottled water and eating catered food, while the crew sweats and toils away to prepare for the next shot. It must be hell to sit on your ass all day long and get paid millions of dollars for it. I simply don't have any idea how you do it.

I wish you would simply shut your mouth. You are an actress. Your opinion means absolutely nothing to the average person. You are a live action puppet. Nothing you do can't be done by one of the tens of thousands of starving actresses that are stuck waiting tables in LA.

I think what gywenth paltrow is trying to say is while ur in another state for 14 days your husband has plenty of time to mess around behind ur back and ur stuck some where else and there is nothing u can do about the situation.any one in the industry knows this.as an ex model I figured this out pretty quickly after accepting a 1 week job assignment in the Phillipines and came home to a cheating fiance.his excuse was he was lonely so give gywenth a break.no road in life is easy.I think what she meant was with a 9 to 5 u can come home get that family bonding time AND sexy time with ur husband in each day if u choose.

Paltrow is a self absorbed snob who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. If not for who her mommy and daddy are (were) I doubt she would be the "name" she is - or thinks she is. Personally I don't like her "acting" and never did. Yes she has it oh so hard working on a film or Glee and making tons of $s and being able to take years off at a time.
What Makenzie forgot is Paltrow has the burden of deciding which country to live in - US or UK, and which 3-4 homes to live in, and oh darn it she had a multi million $ hubby to help pay bills! That is SO difficult to cope with! PLus she has those darn royalties from Glee episodes in syndication and her crap movies that get replayed (why?!). Not like that "lucky" office worker gets an extra paycheck for something she did 10 years ago! You know how often I hear "Hey, we just wanted to give you a big check for some research you did 7 years ago we just used again!" Yeah, what a drag Gwyneth! It is SO hard being you!!!

  9. 9

    I like her, she's sassy.

Re: sara marie – There are many people with office jobs and other jobs that take them out of town for extended periods of time. It is not exclusive to a movie star. When Gwen's on set, she could take her children with her. How many office jobs allow that? When Gwen's on set, she can have a full staff take care of her children at home or even on the set, too. Office Mom's can't afford that.
Your fiancee was a dick, and if he can't be away from you for one week and stay faithful, he does NOT deserve you. I think you're pretty lucky to have found that out before the marriage.
Also, her husband tours a lot (or did during their marriage), so if he wanted some strange, he could do it while touring, she didn't need to be on set.

Poor thing!!! How hard must it be to live her life where she can go to work, have mulitple nannies and even bring her kids to the set she's working on. I'm an Army wife, working full time with two kids. My husband has been gone for some time now and I'm making things work without a nanny or all that money. I feel for Gwyneth. She really has such a hard life….

  13. 13

Re: Jessicalc – Also - Gwyneth never NEEDS to be on set. She can afford not to work. She is there because she wants to be there. She has no idea what it is like to work because you have to make ends meet.

Love it!! Shows how much she knows. Most office jobs in corporate America actually will make you pick up and leave for 2 weeks. My husband and I both have had to do it several time and my girlfriends is gone at least 1-2 weeks every month. It sucks; especially when you have no nanny to help out…just me and my husband trying to balance it all with all the after school sports and activities. The only time I have to go shopping is when we are at the store getting groceries so Super Target it is!! I don't think my life is harder, easier, more exciting, more boring, etc. I just appreciate what I have, thank God everyday for it, and concentrate on never compare.

Aww poor gp she has people to look after her kids and do everything for her must be such a horrible life for her most of us only get kids bedtimes alone and even then it's washing ironing cleaning and maybe if you're lucky you have a 15 minute bath to relax before going to bed geez she needs to get thrown in the real world and see what it's really like having kids and a home and bills without the millions in the bank

  17. 17

Well, she's got everything but brains. And, I guess now, a husband… Keep talking, Gwyneth! Please.

  18. 18

THE BIG IRONY!!!…someone could read mckenzie's letter and put her in the same spotlight; that she herself is being a bitch, as they're ppl who would love to be in her position as a desk job working mom. mckenzie could have easily slipped up and compare her life to someone in a lower class -_-…everybody's life is different. yes even the spoiled rich may think its hard to raise their hand to swipe their gold card while shopping, so basically no matter what, we all will have something to bitch about. so as much as you morons think GP is the bitch, you all are, because you all took it upon yourself to be offended, when all she was doing is speaking her reality….i bet a lot of you bitch about some FIRST WORLD PROBLEM, but no one cares to put you in the spotlight and condemn you. the things that you ppl should be concerned about like voting in government who are slowly killing you by making deals with their friends who own corporate companies to push products on the market that's not healthy and fucking up the environment in the process…

  19. 19

    22

I'm very pleased with this. I really hope GP reads this and realizes that what she said is wrong. Sorry Gwennie, but your 14 hours of shitty acting will NEVER compare to what working mothers (and fathers) endure on a daily basis. I hate that GP always feels the need to give her opinion on something and I've noticed it's always things she doesn't completely understand! Gwennie do us ALL a favor and keep your mouth shut. Focus on your million dollar divorce not hoe hard your life is compared to working mothers.

    33

STOP STOP STOP, get off this woman's back and read the entire article. She was just saying working 14 hrs a day and then needing to go some place for two weeks at the drop of a hat makes it difficult to raise children. This working mother, who wrote this article has to get over herself. it is time to stop the Gwyneth Paltrow bashing, you don't know how difficult Chris Martin is to live with, on Howard Stern he even said he was hard to live with. Working mom get off you high horse and look after your kids and also go to work. Your high horse comments got your 15 minutes of fame. you at least know your schedule and have a regular routine

  34. Wake up says – reply to this

    34

Ok I read all the comments. Stop your whining! GP is such a…. You have it easy - Oh she has to get up at 6am and has to rush around. Well get up at 5am and take your time. Looks to me like GP is saying long days at work not being able to be near child is hard vs seeing the child every day and having a daily set schedule is easier. As a Single Dad, I get up early and go to bed early and I have time to do everything I need to do, which is not going out, staying up late watching TV etc… What I need to do is raise and love my child. If I had to be away for weeks on end it would be harder than my daily routine. So stop your crying, from what I read most of the comments show that those who read this are angry, frustrated and ugly people.

I'm a single mom, and for 4 months I "worked" trying to get a real job to provide for me and my little baby. I had to dress up every day, and take my kid in Kindergarden and then look every day for a job in everywhere, newspaper, internet, and having my telephone ready in case someone would call me, so i was ready for the interviews. Then preparing the CVs I would send that day. I did in 4 months 138 CVs and sent them out, without even counting the ones I sent per email. And noone wanted to give me a job, because I have a little baby. I had to struggle to provide for my son, and my husband was being an asshole with me. Telling me that I dont do anything while I still had to wash, press the clothes, cook all three meals for him, taking care of my son in the afternoons. I finally got a job on the internet working as a Virtual assistant. Still being called lazy as I dont produce a lot of money, and this girl GP comes and says her job is so difficult? If she would see the world from below, would be another story. EArning only 100 dollars the week, and it goes fast, and taking care yourself of the kids, as I cannot afford a nanny, or a maid, and had to do the hole house cores, like shopping (yeah right, would be nice, if I could go shopping clothes) but no, shopping groceries, and see that at the end of the week, i dont have enough to pay other things. The life of the rich and famous, dont have any idea of what real life is…..

Re: Wake up – Angry, frustrated, and ugly?? Yes, being a working mother in a low paying, thankless, boring job with no end is sight is frustrating. And yes, it makes me angry when people like GP make flippant comments about it. But ugly? Where's that coming from?

Re: Jessicalc – Her children have to go to school. They have lives too, she can't just take them out of school and take them on set with her. I get both sides to this debate. The mother is right, it's harder to raise your children hands on and work an office job at the same time, but not all of us can see how demanding the life of a actor or a rockstar are. Her (soon to be ex) husband is on tour a lot and Gwyneth films a lot. In order to be a good parent you need to be the one raising your children and being there for them and this kind of lifestyle makes it hard to do. Everyone dreams of doing what they love when they grow up, Gwyneth has this luxury. Sure things are easier for her in some ways, but it's probably harder in others. She always has the paps on her back.

    53

Oh booo hooo. Its us business owners who have it the hardest. If an "office worker" fails on the job, they get fired and go find another job. But if us business owners fail, we destroy the livelihood of our employees. All of them. All 5 of them (in my case) but some people employ 100's. Try living with that stress. Try living with the stress that if your products or service dont sell, you have to fire your employees who you've grown to love and care about. Being a business owner is kinda surreal. I can work as few as 1 hour a day (work is for employees) but I still have 5 times more stress than a typical employee has.
Try being a business owner and then tell me how you are suffering. Business ownership is as high stress as it gets. And then here it comes: "can I have a raise?". "nope". "then I'll have to find work elsewhere".. "bye". And then they cant find work elsewhere. Then you have to look at their angry face for the rest of the year.

  54. Kandynator says – reply to this

    54

Wow! I have never understood why people take offence as easily as they do about someone else's pov. The very observation by many that she was born into luxury should also make allowance for the FACT that nothing we own takes the place of personal interaction and the love of those close to us. If your job keeps you away from home for several weeks at a time, there is no doubt that it will put a strain on your family, NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE OR HOW MUCH YOU EARN!
I was not offended by her take. The grass is always greener. I acknowledge my complete ignorance of the challenge GP woke up with this morning. None of us knows what it has meant for GP as a wife and mother…she has no idea what I go through either. She is free to make a comparison as she sees it. Gwyneth, you have NO idea how well nigh impossible sexy time is for a 9 to 5er who HAS TO work five days a week for a living, do homework with three children, make dinner, do laundry and shopping and fit in time to simply take a bath. It may look easier to you because it's what you've never had to do. Maybe, for the same reasons, your life looks a lot easier to me. There is no manual for parenting or marriage; we simply learn as we go…I am sorry for your own losses…I hope you have lessons you can take forward. I wish you the best in this "uncoupling" period and hope your family will be stronger for the lessons.
    Namaste

Re: pdrocksmysocks – hey, yes I appreciate that. to clarify my thought process, I just think that many people go on the defence and attack based on the fact that she has the ability to hire help, etc. I see the word 'luxury' thrown around a bit, all this, to me implies that they do have a problem with her success, that their anger in regards to her comments is rooted in a 'no fair' she has it way easier than me because of her lifestyle, how dare she complain. I used the word success (by definition) to sum all this up. I would stand by that.

Like everyone else is saying if your job is too "hard" and so much work that you have to complain why not live a normal life instead of this stupid fantasy life you live.. why have kids if you travel all the time and "work" so damn hard..

This working mom nailed it! Hell, I work 14-17 hour days frequently in the healthcare field, and THEN after days like that, must come home, and take care of the demands of my 2 year old son who may or may not sleep thru the night. On call 2-3 nights a week to be available at any hour of the night and early morning only to do it all over again the next day. No hired full time nanny here! These celebrities are soooo out of touch with reality it's not even funny.

She's out of touch. A former personal asst told me GP does not like to use alarm clocks and so employs asst to wake early, drive to GP's house and gently wake GP in person at specific time. Human alarm clock- gotta get one myself so I can make sure I don't miss my train

Boo hoo you brought another human being in to the world and now you have to care for them (in a safe, civilized, and "free" country). You think you have it bad? There are mothers who are so malnourished themselves that they can't produce milk to feed their baby. There are mothers who don't have clean water to bathe their children in. There are mothers whose biggest concern is keeping their child alive another day.

There are those of us who are not fortunate enough to have children or a family to care for. So take a minute (maybe the one you would have used to drink half your cup of coffee) and get down off of your high horse and recognize that she too is human and that there are times when her life is harder than yours. Look in the mirror and be thankful for how good we have it…

    Dear Mackenzie,

You seem kind of bitter. Why did you choose to live a 45 minute commute away from your job? Why did you have children?

Empower your self and change the stuff you don't like. You can do it.

Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 2768: Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin - and the VERY UNconscious Uncoupling foretelling their Conscious Uncoupling

  68. 68

Re: Wake up – Maybe the "wonderful" Ms. Paltrow will let you follow her around and wipe her ass for her I think you might be just right for that job. Get over your Gwyneth crush and face it she is a rich snob who was born that way and has never had to worry about where her next dollar is coming from or if the bills will be paid this month. Anyone that believes you can look like her or cook like her if you just follow her books is really a fool. She has cooks, she has trainers to get her in shape and if she is sick of her husband she can get rid of him she does not need his money, wise up.

  69. 69

None of the angry working mom's letter was over the top. All of it was dead on and YOU know it!
Paltrow is a spoiled bitch who has never once had to work a real job in her lifetime. Why doesn't she just shut the hell up for once. Hell, she can't even make her marriage work. Seems like it shouldn't have been so difficult since they don't have to deal with money issues like so many marriages that end up in divorce. Lack of money is a true strain on any marriage. So why couldn't Ms. Feminine almighty Paltrow keep her marriage together? PATHETIC I say.

  70. 70

I love this Mackenzie woman. I think her letter should get tons of press if you want my opinion. I know I'd love for someone to give that blonde idiot a dose of reality for those who don't make a million dollars in a few months.
Hey someone in Hollywood, offer me a job working 14 hour days for 3 to 4 months. I'll take it and i don't look gaunt!!

  71. 71

Re: perezinator – I don't know who is the bigger bitch, you (perezinator) or GP.

  72. 72

Re: Wake up – So you're assuming these moms who complain stay up late watching TV and don't have it hard. REally? Do you not realize just because you're a man you are paid more than a woman is for doing the same job? (yes that still happens, sure did to me) So yeah, it may not be as hard for you. It's not like GP can't afford to have her children flown to her and have them tutored the entire time. Come on. You seriously think that women working everyday jobs don't have to go out of town for work? Is that limited to actresses?
Anyone who sympathizes with GP is someone I'm lucky not to know.

I'm the president of a college and have a newborn at home after my LONG five week maternity leave I returned to my 10-12 hour workdays. Those are not work days just a few weeks out of the year but every week. Paltrow sounded like an uneducated, shallow idiot who is so out of touch with reality that my only conclusion is she is on drugs or just truly an idiot.

Yes it must be so nerve racking to have expensive sitters looking after your kids and the stylist who dress you up and then the make up artists who doll you up each and every day!! Then the four to five multi mansions you have the choice to choose to stay in I can see how the window is clealy open for comparisons from Gwenny to all working regular SUPER-MAMAS who have a mortgage and a child care and school fees and everyday struggles to face…omg really? I wonder if she had my job with my work and mortgage would she have still made that comment…?

I can NOT stand Gwyneth. She is a pretentious (I can't say a nice word). She lives in some altered universe. She thinks she is better than everyone. I swear I don't see how she has any friends. Aren't other celebrities sick of her yet? It would be fine and preferred that she just fall off the face of the Earth. Why doesn't she just go to Alaska, shut up and tend to her children. She isn't even a good actress!!! She got an oscar for Shakespeare in Love because she paid them.

I find her to be at the pinnacle of egoism and obnoxious, out of touch delusion. I mean REALLY? Gwynie, have you ever worried about how you are going to pay your bills? Who is going to clean your home? How you are going to pay for child care and trust the person to care for your children? Have you ever even thought before you spoke? The mother who wrote this letter is absolutely correct and Gwyneth you are a spoiled, rich brat with no sense of morals or normalcy. Your grandfather is rolling over in his grave and you damn well better donate more money to your Kabbalah centre or they will be too ashamed to have you near them too. You are a phoney and have earned a reputation for being an arrogant git.

Go Working Mom! I think that Gwyneth Paltrow has some gall to compare herself to hardworking mothers everywhere. I know and have seen what hardworking mothers are they get up at 5:30/6:00 a.m., take care of the kids, make breakfast, try to get themselves ready for work WITHOUT nannies or much assistance, except from the father, then go to work for an 8-10 hour workday, then come home, cook, take care of the kids, clean-up and around 11:00 p.m., fall into bed EXHAUSTED. Gwyneth Paltrow spends 14 hour workdays on a catered movie-set where she gets pampered for 2 to 6 weeks and she calls THAT hard? Working mothers spend at least 52 weeks a year on their Hardworking Mom set, with no breaks, no excuses, no nannies, no cleaning ladies, very little money and very little help otherwise. Gwyneth Paltrow is driven by a chauffeur, flies in private planes, has nannies and cleaning ladies, and cooks (yeah right she cooks her own food!) and has access to a lot of money to get her help when she needs. Regular working Mom's cannot live that kind of life of privilege so Gwyneth needs to SHUT IT and shut it hard!

This is so ridiculous. I think GP-if you read this slowly, is not trashing anyone, whereas this angry working younger mom is. She's the one who needs a life, and the best thing this other woman can do Is just don't spend any of your family's money going to see movies, especially GPs.

good points Wake up. the others aren't stepping back and reading this without putting their own emotions and life situation into it. God gave GP a gift, and it could be more money etc, but it doesn't make her better then the rest, but it's like grade school-hitting the rich pretty girl?
