We're all for healthy youngsters, but we're not sure that we're 100% sold on this idea.
Juice cleanses have become increasingly popular for people who are looking to lose a few pounds, but apparently they're not just for adults anymore as some parents are actually letting their kiddies try the dietary craze!
The health benefits of the controversial fasting method are still up in the air, but founder of Rawpothecary, Stephanie Walczak argues they can be helpful for anyone trying to slim down, regardless of their age:
"For adults and kids alike who are trying to lose weight, these raw and organic drinks are a great kick-starter."
So how young are we talking here?? Well Dherbs.com is offering a "Children’s Cleanse" that lasts up to 14 days and is targeted to youngsters from ages 2-12!!!!
We're no experts here, but that sound WAY too young to us!!
Marisol Gonzalez, however, IS en expert specializing in children's medicine and she's not to happy with children getting involved in the controversial dieting method:
"The parents want their kids to lose a few pounds and 'eat healthy' — but your body needs a certain number of calories for your heart to beat. If [you cleanse] before puberty, you can delay growth."
Marisol also argues that children who participate in fasts like this are at a higher risk of developing eating disorders!
We definitely hope parents are exercising caution when allowing their kids to try juice diets, because it definitely seems like they're treading in some dangerous waters!
