Family With A Sick 1-Year-Old Gets Rescued At Sea After A Sailing Trip Goes Horribly Wrong! So Why Is This Causing Controversy??
Talk about a situation where everything that CAN go wrong, DOES go wrong!
A family with a love for sailing found themselves in some hot water when Eric and Charlotte Kaufman decided to take their 1-year-old and 3-year-old daughters out to sea in attempt to sail around the world!
Unfortunately, they made it about 900 miles off the coast of Cabo San Lucas when they completely lost control of their boat's steering and were forced to call the Coast Guard!
Luckily, the family was rescued by four National Guard members who were able to stabilize the tiny tot, however, the boat had taken on so much water they were forced to sink it!
The family has come under some intense criticism for taking their daughter on such a long voyage in the first place, but Eric IS a Coast Guard licensed captain and they pretty much LIVE on their boat!
Lyra also had salmonella weeks before the trip, but they made sure to have her cleared by a doctor BEFORE they left!
At the end of the day, the only thing that really matters is everyone is OK and Lyra made a full recovery!
