A Little Girl Who Was Mauled By A Raccoon As A Baby Is Finally Getting A Right Ear After 12 Years! And You Won’t Believe How Doctors Are Doing It!
This is the face of bravery!
Charlotte Ponce was only a baby when she was viciously attacked by a pet raccoon. Her parents had left their young daughter home alone when the raccoon got out of his cage and proceeded to chew off Charlotte’s mouth, nose and right ear!
Under their care, Charlotte has endured a lifetime of hospital visits and surgeries, including a procedure two years ago that gave her a new nose.
Now, young Charlotte prepares to go under the knife again for a breakthrough surgery that has only been done twice before!
Her doctor, Kongkrit Chaiyasate, will attempt to take cartilage from Charlotte's ribs and carve it into the shape of an ear!
He’ll of course only get ONE shot at getting the new ear right so he admitted to practicing on a potato leading up to the surgery!
Dr. Chaiyasate will then implant the formed cartilage into Charlotte’s forearm so that it can grow inside her for two months before it’s implanted on the right side of her head!
If successfully attached, it will truly be a medical miracle! But even a more shocking miracle is that despite the attack, Charlotte suffered almost zero hearing loss! Which means this could be her final few surgeries of her life!
We are pulling for you Charlotte!
See some shots of Charlotte below before she had any surgeries. Warning: some of the photos are quite graphic.
