Kerry Washington plays Olivia Pope on the show Scandal, and damn is she talented.
When she found out she was pregnant with a baby from her new hubby Nnamdi Asomugha, a retired NFL player, she had to figure out how to keep filming.
She talked about the difficulties in hiding her growing bump while filming, saying:
"I work very physically as an actor. The biggest thing for me has been the challenge of how to be this person [Olivia Pope] with the personal transformation that's going on for me physically and how to stay true to this character.
That hasn't been easy. It's been an awesome challenge for me as an actor because so much of how I access character is through my body. It's definitely been complicated, to say the least. I've learned a lot about other ways to access Olivia and be her."
Other than adjusting how she went about getting into character, she also had a lot of help.
The show's costume designer Lyn Paolo helped her out a lot when trying to hide the bump, obviously.
Shonda Rhimes, the writer/creator of the show helped decide whether to hide or embrace the bump. And that was fine with Kerry, who said:
"The decision of whether or not a character would be on a similar journey, I had nothing to do with that decision. I trust Shonda with all things. I feel very grateful that we have such an amazing team that was able to protect the character within the context of what the actress was going through."
They all worked together to make sure Kerry and Olivia were two different people.
So amazing she was able to challenge herself and succeed! Way to go, girl!
