Giselle Mendoza, a 16-year-old high school sophomore, was killed on an Easter morning in Palmdale, CA.
She was sleeping in her bed when an SUV crashed through her building and into her room, crushing her to death.
Her 20-year-old neighbor, Roberto Rodriguez, was driving the vehicle, his blood alcohol level almost twice the legal limit!
He's been arrested and is currently out on $100,000 bail.
An eyewitness on the scene said:
"I saw a car coming down 10th, east, about 80-85 mph, and it didn't stop or hesitate. Just right into the building. Boom."
That's so fast, of course the vehicle went straight through the wall.
The worst part about all of this was Giselle wasn't killed on impact as some previously thought. The witness continued:
"You would hear her moaning, kind of, inside the wall."
That's so heartbreakingly awful!! A young life, taken away, all because someone made the decision to drink and drive. The SUV was going so fast it actually crashed into a second bedroom of another teen girl.
Luckily that 14-year-old girl just happened to sleep on the couch the night of the accident, otherwise, she'd have been dead too.
Even through all her grief, Giselle's older sister spoke to the media, saying:
"I just want… all the people who drink and drive to stop doing it. It's just causing pain for families. They are losing their family members."
We can't even begin to imagine what they're going through. We wish them peace and serenity.
Our heart goes out to Giselle's family and friends.
