This sounds like the most American thing anyone could ever do as a teen, but that hasn't stopped his school from dropping the punishment hammer!
An 18-year-old student, Patrick Farves, was preparing to ask reigning champ Miss America Nina Davuluri out to his senior prom when Pennsylvania school officials at Central York High School told him he was NOT allowed to ask that particular question.
Nina Davuluri was at the school to discuss questions related to the importance of subjects such as science, technology, and math.
Following his heart rather than his brain, Patrick asked the question anyway, and was subsequently suspended!
Although he did get a BIG cheer from his fellow student body!
Well, Nina Davuluri heard about what happened, and was NOT happy about the school's decision!
"On Thursday, a student invited me to prom and gave me a flower while I was giving a presentation in York, Pennsylvania. I was flattered by the gesture although I am unfortunately unable to attend due to my travel schedule. I later learned of the disciplinary action taken and reached out to the school in hopes that they will reconsider their decision. Meeting and interacting with students across the country has been an important and rewarding part of my year as Miss America. I always encourage students to follow their dreams through education, and I'm inspired daily by the enthusiasm and aspirations of the bright young adults I have the pleasure of meeting through my travels."
The problem, we're thinking, is this school is NOT going to backtrack on its suspension. It would make them look indecisive, and we bet a bundle they'd rather look strong and wrong than that!
Maybe Miss America will be able to make it up to him in another way! Perhaps a date where there aren't school officials watching their every move, ha!
